‘’The excellent and lamentable
tragedy of Romeo and Juliet ’’
Romeo
and Juliet is a tragic comedy by William Shakespeare. It was written in the
early part of 1590 and published in 1597. There are two families, the Montagues
and Capulets, who are enemies of each other. Romeo is the son of Montague and
Lady Montague. Juliet is the daughter of Captain and Lady Capulet.
The play begins with a feud between servants
from the Montagues and Capulets families. Then Benvolio, a member of the
Montague family, tries to stop this quarrel. But Tybalt, a member of the
Capulet family, fights with Benvolio. During the quarrel, the king arrived and
stopped the fight. Montague and Lady Montague ask Benvolio about Romeo, who is
not present during the quarrel scene. Benvolio lets them know about Romeo's
changing behavior. Romeo tells the Montagues that he has fallen in love with a
girl named Roselin. But this is one-sided love because the girl does not pay
any attention to him.
Capulet tells Count Paris, a rich man, that he
wants to marry his daughter Juliet. Capulet arranged a party at which Juliet
and Count Paris would meet each other. A servant of the Capulet family goes to
invite the guest to the party. He has a list of guests in his hand, but he is
uneducated. He takes the help of Romeo and Benvolio. Romeo finds out the name
of Roselin in the list of guests. He has decided to go to the party with his
friends, Benvolio and Mercutio, by wearing a mask.
When they arrive at the party, Romeo falls in
love with Juliet. Juliet also loved him. Romeo takes the hand of Juliet and
starts a discussion with her. After the party, Romeo and Juliet marry with the
help of Friar Laurence. Then there is a fight between Romeo and Tybalt. During
the fight, Tybalt killed Romeo’s friend Mercutio. Romeo could not control his
anger and killed Tybalt. The King arrived, and Benvolio let him know about the
whole scene. The King declared he had banished Romeo from Verona. Juliet’s nurse
tells Juliet about the murder of her cousin Tybalt by the hand of Romeo. And
the king has banished Romeo from Veronica. Juliet supports Romeo. She tells her
nurse to go and deliver her message to Romeo that Juliet is waiting for him.
And Friar Laurence tells Romeo that the king has banished him from Veronica.
But he should not take any tension because he will help him. Go to Mantua and
wait for his message.
Lady Capulet has decided to marry her daughter
to Count Paris. But they did not know about the marriage of Romeo and Juliet.
They forced Juliet to marry Count Paris. First of all, Juliet does not agree.
She went to Friar Laurence and asked him to solve her problem. Friar Laurence
gave her a bottle of drug and told her to take it before the night of her
marriage. She will die in the eyes of the public after taking this drug. He
will take her out of the tomb and take her to Romeo. Juliet acts upon this
plan. She apologizes to her parents and gets ready for the marriage. She takes
the drug and her parents find her dead. They were very worried and upset to
find out their daughter had died. They buried her.
Romeo’s servant tell him about the death of
Juliet. Romeo did not tolerate the death of Juliet. He has decided to kill
himself. He takes poison and decided to take this poison after seeing Juliet
for the last time. Friar Laurence tells his friend Friar John to deliver his
message of fake death of Juliet to Romeo at Mantua. But he does not agree.
Friar Laurence request him please go and deliver his message to Romeo. Because
after 3 hours Juliet will wake up. she will be get angry with him if she does
not find Romeo with her. But Friar John does not agree.
Count Paris arrive at the grave of Juliet with
a flower. Here Romeo arrived. Count Paris hide himself. and then fight with
Romeo. Romeo killed him. And then Romeo dig Juliet’s grave and look her for the
last time. He take poison and died. Then Juliet wake up and find Romeo died.
Friar Laurence reached here. She does not tolerate the death of Romeo and killed
herself. After their death a crowd of people gathered here. Prince has also
arrived. Friar Laurence tells about the whole scene to prince. It has been
decided to build a golden statue of Romeo and Juliet.
